The seventh annual Great Smoky Mountains Trout Adventure Camp is underpinned by the philosophical foundation of Trout Unlimited (TU), which supports the development of an awareness, appreciation, and understanding of the importance of conserving, protecting and restoring North America's coldwater fisheries and their watersheds.
Through interactive instruction, campers learn about
- stream ecology
- stream chemistry
- stream physics
- aquatic entomology
- fly tying (to catch trout)
- how to catch wild trout in mountain streams
Campers will learn to tie trout flies and fish for mountain trout under the tutelage of Trout Unlimited members. They will learn about stream ecology and stream physics from Tremont staff. Campers will enjoy many other activities such as snorkeling in the Little River, fish sampling using a backpack electroshocker with National Park biologists, and swimming in the Middle Prong. Photos of activities with captions are available via the Activities link in the navigation bar. In-depth multimedia of past camps is located at our Facebook page.
Tremont, a renowned private nonprofit environmental learning center, is located in Walker Valley on the banks of the Middle Prong of Little River. The Middle Prong is a trout stream containing brook, brown and rainbow trout. Tremont facilities include a dormitory, cafeteria, platform tents, classrooms, labs, outdoor meeting shelters and a book store/gift shop.
